Developing B&W

D-76, Rodinal, stop, fix — your first roll, soup to scanner.

Your first roll

Black and white is where everyone starts, because you can do it in a kitchen with a changing bag and a few bottles.

The sequence

1. load film onto a reel, in the dark
2. developer D-76 1+1, 20°C, agitate 10s/min
3. stop stop bath, 30s
4. fix fixer, 4–5 min, till clear
5. wash water, 10 min
6. hang dry, then scan

The one thing

Temperature, agitation, time. Nail those three every time and your negatives will be printable. Everything else is preference.
